Low code technology is an ideal solution for those who prioritize flexibility. We take a look at one of our clients, Xelfer, who uses this technology to cater to a diverse range of users and prioritize a highly flexible backend.
The Xelfer platform assists people in the job market by helping them tap into their full potential through increased self-awareness. This involves gaining a deep understanding of their unique identity, goals, skills, and ideal work environment.
The Xelfer platform offers individuals a way to understand their strengths and weaknesses, along with the skills they have gained throughout their lifetime, and how they can be used in the job market. The ultimate outcome is a comprehensive representation of who they are, known as a "Xelfie", which encompasses a person’s unique traits, motivations, and abilities.
Powered by the Grexx Platform, this application has already gained widespread usage.
Highly versatile
Xelfer is a highly versatile platform that caters to different types of individuals engaged in the job market. Whether you’re an experienced worker content in your current position, or a professional seeking change; an employee just starting out, or someone looking to continue working after retirement, Xelfer has something to offer. Regardless of the target group, everyone shares one common aim: to showcase their skills and strengths.
In practical terms, Xelfer is used by:
- Students for career guidance and mentorship programs
- Professionals seeking a change in their career path
- Individuals returning to the workforce, for example, after a break or taking part in a reintegration program
- And even soon-to-be retirees looking for a new job opportunity.
The diverse range of target groups also reflects Xelfer’s varied customer base, which includes educational institutions, businesses, municipalities, employment agencies, and career coaches, each with their own specific needs and capabilities when it comes to incorporating the platform into their operations.
To accommodate this wide range of applications, the system behind Xelfer needed to be extremely flexible. That is why Xelfer chose the Grexx Platform, as its back end can be easily customized to fit the specific functions of the front end.
Front end: how does it work?
The following screenshot illustrates the flow that a user must follow. During development, the focus is on creating a user-friendly environment that can be easily navigated by any potential user.
The flow involves several steps, some mandatory and others optional. For example, in the top right corner, users have the option to chat with a coach. This feature can be changed based on the customer's or user’s needs, for example, the coaching conversation can be conducted by an external coach, a teacher (if students are using the tool), or an HR colleague (for organizations using it internally).
At the bottom right, users have the option to get started with ChatGPT. Once a Xelfie is complete, an AI-generated motivation letter can be created, providing a user with various examples for inspiration.To achieve this, a link has been made with ChatGPT4, from OpenAI's language model.

Back end: flexibility as a priority
The Grexx team developed the Xelfer application in-house on the Grexx Platform. The application had previously existed in a different form, with a Ukrainian-developed base in PHP. Using that foundation, our team set to work on rebuilding, improving and expanding its functionalities.

Xelfer in practice!
Xelfer has become a widely used tool in various industries, including Riverboard, a regional partnership between companies, local authorities, educational institutions, and social organizations in the municipalities of Vlaardingen, Schiedam, and Maassluis. With the help of ESF funding, Xelfer, and 8Vance's AI technology is used to promote sustainable employability for employees (learn more).
Another successful implementation of Xelfer is by ROC Nederland, where Xelfies are used to assist students in gaining better self-awareness and making informed decisions about their academic choices, which benefits everyone involved in the long run.
The Grexx Platform was also used for Jobliebe, an organisation which offers a unique approach to job seeking. Xelfer has been included in Joliebe’s experience centre, allowing users to search for work that suits them based on their individual Xelfie. This innovative method connects self-awareness with skill identification.
