CEO Update: Artificial Intelligence
CEO Pieter Hufen shares his thoughts on low-code technology, market trends, and future plans for Grexx.
Grexx's CEO, Pieter Hufen, frequently discusses the inner workings of the company and his perspective on low-code technology and industry advancements. Today, he delves into the realm of Artificial Intelligence and shares his predictions for 2024 and beyond.
"Running a fast-growing company is always exciting. Add to that the fact that we are in an explosive and constantly evolving market, and you’ll understand why our management team meetings are never boring. Thank goodness for that...
2023 was a very exciting year for Grexx. We developed the Grexx Platform considerably, took on exciting projects and welcomed new talented individuals to our team, all positive changes of which we are proud. However, the most impactful developments of 2023 were ultimately beyond our control; the widespread availability of AI applications like Chat-GPT erupted, revolutionizing the market for low-code and application development.
AI garners massive attention
The term ‘prompt engineering’ quickly gained popularity and with it, came a flood of potential applications that fascinated our team. AI is not new to Grexx (you can read more about in the interview with my colleague Ton Romeyn) however, the sudden intense focus on this technology had, and continues to have, implications for our team and platform.
As we look towards the future, the main question arises: what impact will AI have on us in 2024 and beyond? It's impossible to provide a single answer as there are many possibilities to consider, but I would like to discuss two particular angles of interest.
Blurring boundaries between human capabilities and software advancement
The B2B custom applications built on the Grexx Platform are constantly pushing the limits of what can be accomplished by professionals and software working together. By identifying and implementing patterns in tasks, we can make it easier for professionals to complete their work within the application. Our goal is not to fully replace professionals, but to enhance processes and speed up tasks through digitization and automation, which also falls in line with the ultimate goal of AI technology.
It is expected that in the next few years, there will be a shift in the boundary between human tasks and those that can be performed by software. Earlier, we highlighted a study by McKinsey that concluded that 60% of occupations have a minimum of 30% activities that could potentially be automated through technology. And as technology continues to advance, these percentages are likely to rise.
(Citizen) developers also benefit from AI
While the impact of artificial intelligence on end-users is often highlighted, it's also important to consider how AI benefits creators and developers. For instance, through the use of artificial intelligence, an administrative assistant is able to do fewer manual actions in an application. But the application developers also benefit from AI which is something we at Grexx are excited to explore.
Our team is developing AI models to assist our citizen developers in creating applications. These models can help answer questions using a pre-existing knowledge base, as well as generating AI code high-code for use in low-code applications.
Building applications entirely with AI is still too complex at the moment, however supporting citizen developers with AI has been successful thus far. And we think that's a great development, because it means that even less code needs to be written by our users.
We eagerly anticipate the advancements and progress that 2024 will bring. Our team is constantly striving to improve our platform, using both traditional methods and AI technology. And the developments in AI also give our users a push to build even more interesting applications.
One thing I know for sure, this year is sure to be as exciting as the last...
